Hi, my name is Lydia and I’m ‘The Backpacker and the Pod’! Ive had Type 1 Diabetes for 7 years now and I was diagnosed at 12 years old. When I was diagnosed Id never heard of Type 1 diabetes or anything that comes along with it. Id only ever heard of Type 2 in the media!
When I’m not acting as my pancreas, Im a second year university student at Hull university and I love to paint, take photos and spend time with my family and friends! Ive been diagnosed with T1D for 7 years now and although I struggle with my diabetes from time to time I try not to let my numbers define me and do the best I can do whilst living my life to the full!
6 months after diagnosis I moved from injections to an insulin pump. For the first 4 years I used the Accuchek spirit combo pump before moving to an Omnipod and I am also currently using the Freestyle libre!
When I was first diagnosed I had never heard of Type 1 and this inspired me to volunteer and start my blog, explaining my diagnosis and daily life, so that others living with diabetes feel less alone and can have the ‘oh me too’ lightbulb moment. We are never alone.
I use my blog ‘thebackpackerandthepod’ to inspire and vent, talking about the highs and lows of life with T1D. I also try to show that diabetes, although is difficult to live with, can have a positive impact on your life. You can travel, go to uni, be a party animal – everything I show is possible within this blog.
Live life with purpose, and just remember;
You’re doing great xoxo
